The Ghent Altarpiece (1432), is widely thought to be one of the most famous panel paintings. It had been stolen several times by the Nazis during WWII. It is currently housed in St. Bavo Cathedral in Ghent, Belgium.
This panel painting consists of 12 panels (one is a copy as the original was stolen in 1934) which depict many complex theological scenes.
