Breaking News on Caylee Anthony

8_67_cayleewbookA skull and bones found near the Florida home of missing child Caylee Anthony are those of the little girl and she was the victim of a homicide, the medical examiner said Friday.

“With regret, I’m here to inform you that the skeletal remains are those of the missing toddler,” said Dr. Jan Garavaglia.

Garavaglia said the cause of death was ruled a homicide by unknown means, as the manner was not clear from the forensic analysis she was able to do.

Garavaglia said she determined the bones found in a privately-owned wooded lot were 2-year-old Caylee’s through nuclear DNA analysis.

“They are not intact. They are all disarticulated. They are completely skeletonized,” the medical examiner said. She said some of the bones found were “tiny.”

The news caps a six-month-long search for the little girl — who was last seen in mid-June but wasn’t reported missing by her mother until a month later. The mother, 22-year-old Casey Anthony, is behind bars without bond and charged with her daughter’s murder.

The child’s next of kin, including her maternal grandparents George and Cindy Anthony; Casey Anthony and other relatives, have been notified of the findings, Garavaglia said.

Ahead of the announcement, Florida police released evidence photos from the Caylee Anthony crime scene, among them one of a book they say they found in the woods that the child had been photographed reading before she vanished.

The pictures were among several cops publicized before the afternoon news briefing.

The book is among numerous pieces of evidence Orange County Sheriff’s deputies say they found in the wooded area where Caylee’s remains turned up.

A team of medical examiners and detectives hoped the bones, discovered by a water meter reader on Thursday, would help them solve the 6-month-old mystery of the child’s whereabouts.
Caylee, who would have turned 3 in August, was last seen in June. Her mother, 22-year-old Casey Anthony is behind bars and charged with her murder.
Lawyers on both sides of the case were heading to court Friday morning in an effort to preserve the evidence collected Thursday and in a bid to be present during testing.

Orange County Sheriff Kevin Beary told a morning show Friday that detectives found a connection between the remains and the Anthonys’ house.

Another search warrant for the home was executed early Friday morning after the medical examiner found “some clues that came out of the remains” that “linked it to the house,” Beary told NBC’s “Today” show.

BREAKING NEWS: Has Caylee’s body been found? Small Child’s Remains Found Near Home of Caylee Anthony’s Family

121108_cayleeThe skeletal remains of a small child were found Thursday near the home of missing Orlando toddler Caylee Anthony’s family.

There was no immediate word on whether the bones, reportedly discovered wrapped in a plastic bag and bound with duct tape, were those of a boy or a girl.

“All we know is that remains of a child have been found,” a police spokeswoman told FOXNews.com. Orange County sheriffs and forensics teams went to the scene at the intersection of South Chickasaw Trail and Suburban Drive in Orlando.

Sheriff’s Office spokesman Jim Solomons told The Associated Press that a utility worker found the body at 9:32 a.m. EST Thursday in a wooded area down the road from the house Caylee lived in with her grandparents and mother.

The water meter reader reportedly picked up the bag and a small skull rolled out that sources say strongly resembled that of a little girl.

Police said the Anthony family has been notified of the discovery and no one is being allowed in their house.
