TV-Music Icon Dick Clark Dead at 82

I watched American Bandstand hosted by Dick Clark when I was (cough, cough) a teen many years ago.  He was a pioneer bringing rock and roll music into our homes.  When I do my math Dick Clark was only 12 years older than me which would mean he was in his late 20’s or early 30’s when he introduced AB.  He made New Year’s Eve a party for not only those in N.Y. but to everyone.   He will truly be missed!!!…flagranny2

Clark suffered a massive heart attack after entering  St. John’s Hospital  in Santa Monica Tuesday night for an outpatient procedure, according to his  family.

It’s hard to imagine what the next 50 to 100 years will bring !!  I know that in my 70 years I’ve seen so many changes but here is just a few:

  • Television black & white,  a 10″ screen, we thought it was amazing even watching the crazy test patterns

  • Gasoline prices – from 25 cents to $3++

  • Washing machines with no wringer and dryers, gosh no more hanging clothes outside in the winter – awesome

  • Typewriters to computers

  • Telephones – Party lines and dial to cell phones

  • Dishwashers – yeah, no more drying by hand

  • Rockets- launching a man into space – (Think of all the Sci-Fi movies prior to astronauts)

  • Shuttles – taking man to the moon

I know this is just a very small list of the changes I’ve seen in my lifetime (since 1941) but to list everything would be impossible.   Now think of everything prior to that.  So for me there’s no way to comprehend what the future will bring.

I’m sure you’re wondering how in the world all of this ties in with an article about aliens, let’s just say for me it’s my way of realizing I believe in the saying “E.T. phone home” will become a reality…..flagranny2

Woman’s 11-stone (154 lbs) legs may be lost – Post Update 2 years later

Why I’m glad my giant leg was amputated

You can read the article at http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/3762723/Why-Im-glad-my-giant-leg-was-amputated.html

2 years after my original post on Mandy Sellers who was born with a rare condition called “Proteus Syndrome”, which caused her legs  at one point to swell up to approximately 170 lbs = British 10 stones).  About 5 months ago she had her left leg (the heaviest) amputated.  One way to identify with this condition they say is to think of the story about “The Elephant Man”.   Mandy’s story is a compelling one and I totally recommend reading the above article as well as catching her story on TV this coming Wednesday…..flagranny2

Mandy said: “My life is better than ever before. My mobility isn’t as good now but I am getting better with it.

“I have been making myself physically feel better which is also helping me feel better mentally. I am really happy and at a good place right now.”

Mandy spends much of her free time raising awareness about her condition which affects just 200 people worldwide.

See Mandy’s story on Extraordinary People: Losing One Of My Giant Legs on British Channel 5 on Wednesday, August 24 at 9pm.
