A Continental Express flight from Newark to Buffalo crashed into a house about 4 miles from the Buffalo airport on Thursday night, according to a spokesman for the National Transportation Safety Board.

The plane carried 48 passengers and crew, said the spokesman, Ted Lopatkiewicz. He said he did not know if there had been any survivors, or any casualties on the ground. The plane went down in light snow, he said.

The Buffalo News, citing a source at the airport there, reported that 49 people — 44 passengers, 4 crew members and 1 on the ground — were killed.

Trooper John Manthey with the New York State Police in Clarence said the plane went down about 10:10 p.m., into a house in the hamlet of Clarence Center, striking a house.

The plane was a Dash 8, a two-engined turboprop, operated by Colgan Airways, as a feeder airline for Continental.

A Safety Board team of investigators will arrive in Buffalo on Friday morning, Mr. Lopatkiewicz said.

UPDATE: Anne Pressly – Arkansas TV anchor dies days after attack

SATURDAY, October 25, 2008

(CNN) — CNN affiliate KATV in Little Rock, Arkansas, said Saturday evening that its morning anchorwoman, Anne Pressly, died. She was 26 years old.

Pressly was found beaten early Monday at her home. She was hospitalized and sedated.

Pressly’s parents released a statement saying they were “with her in her last moments.” They also asked for “the privacy we need at this very difficult time,” KATV reported.

Police said Pressly was apparently not targeted but was attacked during the course of a burglary. Her purse was missing.

Pressly was beaten around the head, face and neck. She had been unable to communicate with her family or police while sedated in the intensive care unit.

The anchor’s death came only a day after a doctor said he was encouraged by her recovery.

Dr. Clifton R. Johnson said Friday that swelling in Pressly’s brain had gone down since she was hospitalized and that doctors had slowly been reducing her sedative dosages.

Police have yet to identify a suspect, though detectives have combed the area around Pressly’s home in the Heights neighborhood, a mix of bungalows and mansions near the Little Rock Country Club.

News reports have said detectives found evidence that Pressly’s credit card was used Monday at a gas station a few miles from her home.

Pressly had a brief role as a TV commentator in Oliver Stone’s film “W.,” released in theaters this month.

Airlines Thwart Plans of ‘Too Sick’ Girl, 5, to Travel to China for Stem Cell Treatment

FoxNews

As a parent what would you do?….flagranny

Two airlines this weekend declined to fly Miranda Goranflo and her daughter Hailey to Beijing, where the 5-year-old was to receive stem-cell treatments for a rare fatal disease, the Courier-Journal reported.

The airlines, Air China and Air Canada, decided during a layover in Vancouver, British Columbia, that Hailey was “too sick” to fly this weekend. After being treated at a Vancouver hospital for seizures, the girl and her mother were forced to fly home to Shepherdsville, Ky., the report said.

“I’m completely distraught,” Goranflo, who disagreed that her daughter was unfit to fly, told the Courier-Journal from Vancouver. “I cannot believe we’ve come this far and we have to come home.”

Hailey and her 3-year-old brother Carter suffer from an incurable disorder called Late Infantile Batten Disease. The disease causes seizures, dementia, and blindness. Most sufferers don’t make it beyond the age of 12. Hailey can no longer walk, talk or eat without a feeding tube, the report said.

Batten disease is relatively rare and occurs in an estimated 2 to 4 of every 100,000 live births in the United States, according to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke.

After raising $78,000, Hailey’s parents planned to take her to China for an experimental stem-cell treatment that is not offered in the U.S.

Details of Hailey’s thwarted trip were posted on the family’s blog Saturday.

Missouri Woman Indicted in MySpace Cyber-Bullying Case That Ended in Teen’s Suicide

Thursday, May 15, 2008

Such a sad and senseless tragedy my heart goes out to Megan’s family and friends.

A federal grand jury in Los Angeles indicted a Missouri woman Thursday for her alleged role in a MySpace hoax on a teen neighbor who committed suicide after being spurned by the “boy” in the fake profile.

Lori Drew, of Dardenne Prairie near St. Louis, was charged with one count of conspiracy and three counts of accessing protected computers without authorization to obtain information to inflict emotional distress on the girl.

Drew allegedly helped create a false-identity MySpace account to contact Megan Meier, who thought she was chatting with a 16-year-old boy named “Josh Evans.”

Megan, 13, hanged herself at home in October 2006 after receiving cruel messages, including one stating the world would be better off without her.

Drew’s attorney, Jim Briscoe, did not return FOXNews.com’s requests for comment about the indictment.

Drew has denied creating the account and sending messages to Megan.

U.S. Attorney Thomas P. O’Brien said the federal statute on accessing protected computers has been used before to address Internet hacking, but this was the first time it has been used in a social-networking situation.  [For full Article]

Surveillance Footage Reportedly Shows Cruise Passenger Falling Overboard

Wednesday, May 14, 2008

         Accident, Suicide or Homocide????…Flagranny2

          Mindy Jordan and Jorge Caputo

A missing New Jersey woman thought to have fallen overboard Sunday from a Norwegian Cruise Line ship was caught by ship surveillance cameras alone in her room when the incident happened, the cruise line said in a statement released Wednesday.

The footage reportedly shows Mindy Jordan, a 46-year-old nurse, falling from her balcony two hours after boarding the ship in New York with her boyfriend, Jorge Caputo.

The cruise line said Jordan and Caputo had dined that evening with friends before returing to their rooms at about 7:30 p.m. Minutes later, Caputo left Jordan alone to visit with the friends next door, the company said.

Surveillance footage from the exterior of the ship shows Jordan falling overboard into the water about 15 minutes later, according to Norwegian Cruise Line, and an emergency call was made from the friends’ room.

The cruise line said the initial indication was that Jordan fell as she tried to reach from one balcony to another on a windy night. The Coast Guard had given up its search Tuesday for her in the Atlantic Ocean off the New Jersey coast.

Jordan’s family fears, though, that her fall was not only tragic but also criminal, and the FBI is investigating.
