UPDATE: Anne Pressly – Arkansas TV anchor dies days after attack

SATURDAY, October 25, 2008

(CNN) — CNN affiliate KATV in Little Rock, Arkansas, said Saturday evening that its morning anchorwoman, Anne Pressly, died. She was 26 years old.

Pressly was found beaten early Monday at her home. She was hospitalized and sedated.

Pressly’s parents released a statement saying they were “with her in her last moments.” They also asked for “the privacy we need at this very difficult time,” KATV reported.

Police said Pressly was apparently not targeted but was attacked during the course of a burglary. Her purse was missing.

Pressly was beaten around the head, face and neck. She had been unable to communicate with her family or police while sedated in the intensive care unit.

The anchor’s death came only a day after a doctor said he was encouraged by her recovery.

Dr. Clifton R. Johnson said Friday that swelling in Pressly’s brain had gone down since she was hospitalized and that doctors had slowly been reducing her sedative dosages.

Police have yet to identify a suspect, though detectives have combed the area around Pressly’s home in the Heights neighborhood, a mix of bungalows and mansions near the Little Rock Country Club.

News reports have said detectives found evidence that Pressly’s credit card was used Monday at a gas station a few miles from her home.

Pressly had a brief role as a TV commentator in Oliver Stone’s film “W.,” released in theaters this month.

Presidential election-2008 My thoughts and rants !!!!!

Send in the clowns!!!  I really have to laugh at the Presidential election this year as it is one of the most screwed up election I have witnessed.  By the actions of the media you would think it a horrible thing for a woman, and a mother at that, to even consider running for an office, what, with children,?  What about a man as a father, I guess that is acceptable and nothing to take in consideration that his duties as a father might be interrupted or are they saying a father isn’t as important as a mother????

Let’s think back to when Bobby Kennedy was a father of 9-10 and running for President.  I guess it doesn’t matter how many children a man has to be responsible for to run for the office but let a woman run and my God she is choosing politics over her family.

Has anyone noticed how many women commentators and anchors there are and you know what they have children too but let’s not point to the media it’s the media’s job to point to everyone else.  I particulary notice that Fox News has many segments with women anchors and also send women out in the fields to report on stories, tropical storms and hurricanes.  Are they considered a bad parent because of their occupation?????

I personally am sick of hearing about Sarah Palin and the fact that she is a mother and one with a special needs child.  Does that make her any less capable of doing a good job as VP.  I have seen quite a few VP’s who have done absolutely nothing.  I want to see an election that speaks to a platform of intentions I don’t want to hear a candidate say if I’m elected I will do this or that as they don’t always have the last word.  Show me a candidate who says if I’m elected I will TRY and not I will.  To me that makes more sense and I’d vote for that one in a heart beat.

Let’s have an election not based on sex or race but based on what they will try to do for us, especially the middle and lower class plus senior citizens as they get the brunt of it.  As a senior citizen myself I see medicare being reduced each year and health benefits are almost zero.  Health benefits are for the rich and the big boys on the hill who don’t have to pay for any and have the sky as the limit on their medical care.  I’m sure not a one of them has to worry each month as to whether they eat or spend their medicare benefits on prescription drugs.

OK, I have vented and could go on and on but for my sake and yours I’m going to end it here.  If anyone would like to share their thoughts I’d like to hear from  you……..flagranny2

John Edwards calling former staffers asking for forgiveness

Well what do you know, another boy on the hill caught cheating, well blow me down…..flagranny2

DENVER – John Edwards is burning up the phone lines, begging former aides and backers to forgive him for lying about his affair – but hearing their rage instead.

As Democrats kick off their convention Monday, the onetime presidential contender is a man without a party – or a political future – trying to rebuild bridges through dozens of remorseful phone calls.

It’s proving a hard sell with onetime true believers.

Many are bitter and disillusioned after swallowing his lies about his affair with a campaign staffer and vouching for his credibility with friends and journalists.

Some ignore his plaintive phone entreaties and don’t call back – even when Edwards leaves follow-up messages. A few ………Click Here  to continue reading the article.

In my opinion what John Edwards did was wrong in every way but I don’t get it when a Senator or Congressman is caught cheating they chastise that person and treat them like they are the first Senator or Congressman to have had an affair and I would bet my last dollar there isn’t one on “The Hill” who hasn’t cheated yet they are the first to point fingers.

Edwards was suppose to speak at the Democratic National Convention but was taken off the list of speakers because of his actions.  Then there is Senator Kennedy who can do anything and everyone thinks he is God.  If you or me had done what he did while at Chappaquiddick we would be spending the rest of our life in prison.  Then in the Anita Hill case Kennedy served on the panel in judgement of Clarence Thomas. what a joke that was.  The men and women on “The Hill” choose when to be oblivious of one situation but are out to get another………flagranny2 (FYI I’m neither Democrate nor Republican)

Chef Julia Child, others part of WWII spy network

WASHINGTON (AP)

They served in an international spy ring managed by the Office of Strategic Services, an early version of the CIA created in World War II by President Franklin Roosevelt.

The full secret comes out Thursday, all of the names and previously classified files identifying nearly 24,000 spies who formed the first centralized intelligence effort by the United States. The National Archives, which this week released a list of the names found in the records, will make available for the first time all 750,000 pages identifying the vast spy network of military and civilian operatives.

They were soldiers, actors, historians, lawyers, athletes, professors, reporters. But for several years during World War II, they were known simply as the OSS. They studied military plans, created propaganda, infiltrated enemy ranks and stirred resistance among foreign troops.

Some of those on the list have been identified previously as having worked for the OSS, but their personnel records never have been available before. Those records would show why they were hired, jobs they were assigned to and perhaps even missions they pursued while working for the agency.

Among the more than 35,000 OSS personnel files are applications, commendations and handwritten notes identifying young recruits who……  [ CONTINUE ]

Video Shows Woman Ignored While Dying in New York Mental Hospital

Tuesday, July 01, 2008
Article from Associated Press as reported by FoxNews

After watching the video I was in disbelief that someone actually let this happen with no conscience at all.  I guess by now I shouldn’t be shocked by what people allow to happen when they could have helped but something like this makes me feel ashamed to think there are people that can ignore a situation like this………flagranny2

BROOKLYN, N.Y. —  Stunning video from a surveillance camera at a Brooklyn hospital shows a woman dying on the floor of a psychiatric emergency room while staffers ignore her.

The video was released by lawyers suing Kings County Hospital alleging neglect and abuse of mental health patients at the medical facility.

Click here to watch the video.

(when you click on this vide it will take you to the one or several ones taken from different views however the one that was originally posted that I first saw closer resembels the 3rd one down on the list at the right where she was completely ignored.) …flagranny2

The video shows the 49-year-old woman falling out of her chair at about 5:30 a.m. June 19, then lying face-down on the floor and thrashing around before going still. The woman died.

People nearby, including two security guards, do nothing to help. An hour passes before a fellow patient finally gets the attention of a staffer.

The tape also suggests that staff at the hospital might have faked medical charts belonging to the victim, Esmin Green, to cover her lack of treatment, the New York Daily News reported.

Her medical chart claims the Jamaica native got up to walk to the bathroom when she was actually writhing on the floor, the News reported. The records also have Green sitting quietly in her chair when she was already dead.

“Thank God for the videotape because no one would have believed this could have happened,” Donna Lieberman, executive director of the New York Civil Liberties Union, told the Daily News.

The agency that runs the municipal hospital — the city’s Health and Hospitals Corp. — fired six staffers, including the two security guards.

Breaking News: Tim Russert host of “Meet the Press” dead at 58

Friday, June 13, 2008
Fox News

WASHINGTON —  Tim Russert was big wherever he went — in politics, in television, in writing — and even in a suit.

Russert, the hard-hitting but big-hearted moderator of NBC’s “Meet the Press,” died at work Friday at age 58 of a reported heart attack.

Russert, who also was in charge of NBC News’ Washington bureau, is survived by his wife, Maureen Orth., and his son, Luke.

A noticeably shaken Tom Brokaw made the announcement live from New York on the NBC network, saying his colleague collapsed and died early Friday afternoon in the network’s bureau in Washington.

Brokaw said Russert had just returned from a trip to Italy with his wife and son to celebrate his son’s graduation from Boston College. They reportedly were still in Italy at the time of his death.

“He has been a very familiar face on this network and throughout the world of political journalism as one of the premiere political analysts and journalists of his time,” Brokaw said.

Russert was also known for his large stature, his love of his family, and his affinity for his home town, Buffalo — and it’s NFL franchise, the Bills. Brokaw said Russert had just visited Buffalo last week to assist in moving his father to a new home. Russert’s father, known as Big Russ, was the subject of one of Russert’s best-selling books.

“I think I can invoke personal privilege to say that this news division will not be the same without his strong, clear voice. He’ll be missed as he was loved — greatly,” Brokaw said.

Russert had hosted “Meet the Press” since 1991, taking the seat from Garrick Utley. Russert also authored two best-sellers, including “Big Russ and Me,” which focused on the relationship with his father, and the “Wisdom of Our Fathers.”

Russert honed his hard-hitting interviewing style over the years, and became a make-or-break appearance for any major American politician, as well as must-see television for political observers, in and outside government.

He regularly interviewed the biggest names in domestic and international politics. He also moderated presidential debates, including at least three during the 2008 presidential campaign cycle. He was scheduled to host Sens. Joe Biden, D-Del., and Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., for the upcoming Sunday show.

“Meet the Press” has been on network television since 1947, and is the longest running American public affairs show.

Russert — who also was an attorney and a former aide to former Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan, D-N.Y., and former New York Gov. Mario Cuomo (D) — had a distinctive on-air style marked by tough questioning and extensive research that included posting well-documented quotes and charts on air.

During the 2000 election, Russert received light ribbing but made an indelible memory for making repeated references to a white dry-erase board he continued to write on while explaining the ongoing tallies. He eventually determined that night — before the recount and the hanging chads — by playing out numbers on his erase-board tally that Florida would be the center of the action.

Russert’s reputation — criticized both by conservatives for liberal bias, and liberals for conservative bias — might have been the only one left untarnished by the scandal involving former White House aide…… To continue [Click HERE]

Breaking News >>Sen. Ted Kennedy Has Malignant Brain Tumor, Doctors Say

Tuesday, May 20, 2008
SOURCE: Foxnews.com

Thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends

BOSTON —  Sen. Ted Kennedy has been diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor, FOX News confirms.

Doctors for the Massachusetts Democrat said Tuesday that “preliminary results” from tests conducted on Kennedy after a seizure sent him to the hospital over the weekend confirmed the diagnosis.

“Preliminary results from a biopsy of the brain identified the cause of the seizure as a malignant glioma in the left parietal lobe,” the doctors said in a statement, adding that treatment would likely include “combinations of various forms of radiation and chemotherapy.”

The doctors said that he was in “good condition” and had not suffered any more seizures since Saturday.

“Decisions regarding the best course of treatment for Senator Kennedy will be determined after further testing and analysis,” they said. “Senator Kennedy will remain at Massachusetts General Hospital for the next couple of days according to routine protocol. He remains in good spirits and full of energy.”

The 76-year-old senator has been hospitalized in Boston since Saturday, when he was airlifted from Cape Cod after a seizure at his home.

His wife and children have been with him each day but have made no public statements.

Malignant gliomas are a type of brain cancer diagnosed in about 9,000 Americans a year — and the most common type among adults. It’s a starting diagnosis: How well patients fare depends on what specific tumor type is determined by further testing.

Average survival can range from less than a year for very advanced and aggressive types — such as glioblastomas — or to about five years for different types that are slower growing.
