Bill to Prohibit Insider Trading by Members of Congress Advances in Senate

WASHINGTON — In an effort to regain public trust, the Senate voted Monday to take up a bill that would prohibit members of Congress from trading stocks and other securities on the basis of confidential information they receive as lawmakers.

The vote was 93-2

[Is this a shocker to you or am I the only one who wasn’t aware of this??

I guess I really shouldn’t be surprised but don’t you think it’s just a wee bit  “what’s right for me is wrong for you” or better yet, “we make the rules but they don’t apply to us” government practices.  Trust me I’m not a big fan of Martha Stewart in any shape or form but didn’t the courts find her guilty of something that lawmakers are allowed to do with no questions asked?…… flagranny2]

The bill states that members and employees of Congress are not exempt from the federal law and regulations that ban insider trading.

“No member of Congress and no employee of Congress shall use any nonpublic information derived from the individual’s position as a member of Congress or employee of Congress, or gained from performance of the individual’s duties, for personal benefit,” the bill says.

Kennedy looses battle of Brain Cancer

Kennedy looses battle of Brain Cancer

Senator Kennedy  leaves behind a political legacy as being one of the longest serving senators in history.

After losing his brothers President John Kennedy and Attorney General  Robert Kennedy, both assassinated, Kennedy became the one who the family turned to when in need of support.

He also carried the burden of his tragic accident in 1969 when his car plunged off a bridge on Chappaquiddick killing Mary Jo Kopechne.

When his brother Robert ‘Bobby’ was assassinated Kennedy endured the responsibility of the family as he delivered Bobby’s eulogy.

Critics Slam Elizabeth Edwards for Silence on Husband’s Affair

wronged by a cheating husband

RALEIGH, N.C. —  Two weeks after a devastating revelation sent her husband into political exile, Elizabeth Edwards isn’t getting the steady sympathy usually afforded to a woman scorned.

Instead, she’s faced criticism from dedicated Democrats who think she was too willing to keep the affair a secret to help John Edwards’ political ambitions, as well as her own.

At a time when she was expected to hold a prominent role in pushing an agenda of improved health care for Americans, she stands silent. While fellow Democrats converge in Denver to nominate Barack Obama for president, Edwards remains in seclusion in North Carolina.

It seems an odd way to treat a woman with incurable cancer wronged by a cheating husband, the latest in a series of deep hardships in life that includes the death of a teenage son.

John Edwards calling former staffers asking for forgiveness

Well what do you know, another boy on the hill caught cheating, well blow me down…..flagranny2

DENVER – John Edwards is burning up the phone lines, begging former aides and backers to forgive him for lying about his affair – but hearing their rage instead.

As Democrats kick off their convention Monday, the onetime presidential contender is a man without a party – or a political future – trying to rebuild bridges through dozens of remorseful phone calls.

It’s proving a hard sell with onetime true believers.

Many are bitter and disillusioned after swallowing his lies about his affair with a campaign staffer and vouching for his credibility with friends and journalists.

Some ignore his plaintive phone entreaties and don’t call back – even when Edwards leaves follow-up messages. A few ………Click Here  to continue reading the article.

In my opinion what John Edwards did was wrong in every way but I don’t get it when a Senator or Congressman is caught cheating they chastise that person and treat them like they are the first Senator or Congressman to have had an affair and I would bet my last dollar there isn’t one on “The Hill” who hasn’t cheated yet they are the first to point fingers.

Edwards was suppose to speak at the Democratic National Convention but was taken off the list of speakers because of his actions.  Then there is Senator Kennedy who can do anything and everyone thinks he is God.  If you or me had done what he did while at Chappaquiddick we would be spending the rest of our life in prison.  Then in the Anita Hill case Kennedy served on the panel in judgement of Clarence Thomas. what a joke that was.  The men and women on “The Hill” choose when to be oblivious of one situation but are out to get another………flagranny2 (FYI I’m neither Democrate nor Republican)

They served in an international spy ring managed by the Office of Strategic Services, an early version of the CIA created in World War II by President Franklin Roosevelt.

The full secret comes out Thursday, all of the names and previously classified files identifying nearly 24,000 spies who formed the first centralized intelligence effort by the United States. The National Archives, which this week released a list of the names found in the records, will make available for the first time all 750,000 pages identifying the vast spy network of military and civilian operatives.

They were soldiers, actors, historians, lawyers, athletes, professors, reporters. But for several years during World War II, they were known simply as the OSS. They studied military plans, created propaganda, infiltrated enemy ranks and stirred resistance among foreign troops.

Some of those on the list have been identified previously as having worked for the OSS, but their personnel records never have been available before. Those records would show why they were hired, jobs they were assigned to and perhaps even missions they pursued while working for the agency.

Among the more than 35,000 OSS personnel files are applications, commendations and handwritten notes identifying young recruits who……  [ CONTINUE ]

Breaking News >>Sen. Ted Kennedy Has Malignant Brain Tumor, Doctors Say

Thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends

BOSTON —  Sen. Ted Kennedy has been diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor, FOX News confirms.

Doctors for the Massachusetts Democrat said Tuesday that “preliminary results” from tests conducted on Kennedy after a seizure sent him to the hospital over the weekend confirmed the diagnosis.

“Preliminary results from a biopsy of the brain identified the cause of the seizure as a malignant glioma in the left parietal lobe,” the doctors said in a statement, adding that treatment would likely include “combinations of various forms of radiation and chemotherapy.”

The doctors said that he was in “good condition” and had not suffered any more seizures since Saturday.

“Decisions regarding the best course of treatment for Senator Kennedy will be determined after further testing and analysis,” they said. “Senator Kennedy will remain at Massachusetts General Hospital for the next couple of days according to routine protocol. He remains in good spirits and full of energy.”

The 76-year-old senator has been hospitalized in Boston since Saturday, when he was airlifted from Cape Cod after a seizure at his home.

His wife and children have been with him each day but have made no public statements.

Malignant gliomas are a type of brain cancer diagnosed in about 9,000 Americans a year — and the most common type among adults. It’s a starting diagnosis: How well patients fare depends on what specific tumor type is determined by further testing.

Average survival can range from less than a year for very advanced and aggressive types — such as glioblastomas — or to about five years for different types that are slower growing.
