TV-Music Icon Dick Clark Dead at 82

I watched American Bandstand hosted by Dick Clark when I was (cough, cough) a teen many years ago.  He was a pioneer bringing rock and roll music into our homes.  When I do my math Dick Clark was only 12 years older than me which would mean he was in his late 20’s or early 30’s when he introduced AB.  He made New Year’s Eve a party for not only those in N.Y. but to everyone.   He will truly be missed!!!…flagranny2

Clark suffered a massive heart attack after entering  St. John’s Hospital  in Santa Monica Tuesday night for an outpatient procedure, according to his  family.

Farrah Fawcett Breaks Her Silence, Slams Tabloids and California Hospital

Tuesday, May 12, 2009
Source – FoxNews, LA Times and CNN

farrahfawcett_lFarrah Fawcett is finally breaking her silence, slamming tabloids and a California medical center for releasing information, some of it false, regarding her condition.

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times from August, but held at Fawcett’s request until now, the actress said that the gravity of her struggle with anal cancer was exacerbated by having to endure it under public scrutiny.

“It’s much easier to go through something and deal with it without being under a microscope,”Fawcett, 62 said. “It was stressful. I was terrified getting the chemo. It’s not pleasant. And the radiation is not pleasant.”

Moreover, the actress was stunned to learn just how far supermarket tabloids would go with false and misleading headlines, such as a December 2006 story that read “Farrah Begs: ‘Let Me Die.’”

“God, I would never say something like that,” she told the Times. “To think that people who did look up to me and felt positive because I was going through it too and yet I was strong … it just negated all that.”

But the manner and speed in which details about her condition leaked to the tabloids caused the “Charlie’s Angels” star to grow suspicious that someone at the UCLA medical center was sending her confidential medical information to the press.

Indeed, even when the tabloid reports were false, Fawcett told the Times that they were based on some truth“God, I would never say something like that,” she told the Times. “To think that people who did look up to me and felt positive because I was going through it too and yet I was strong … it just negated all that.”

Fawcett said, UCLA repeatedly asked her to donate money to the hospital for a foundation to be set up in her name.

So Fawcett decided to attempt to catch UCLA in the leak in May of 2007, deliberately not revealing to any of her friends or family that her cancer had returned.

Within days of her diagnosis, the Enquirer was reporting the news.Last week, Fawcett’s long-time partner Ryan O’Neal revealed that Fawcett’s condition was deteriorating, that she had lost all of her hair and that her treatment had “pretty much ended.”[full story]

‘Golden Girls’ Actress Estelle Getty Dies at 84

Tuesday, July 22, 2008
Source-Associated Press to Foxnews.com

[ In her early 60s, she flunked her “Golden Girls” test twice because it was believed she didn’t look old enough to play 80.]

I can’t even think of anyone better than Estelle Getty playing the role of Sophia.  You can put Betty White, Rue McClanahan and Bea Arthur together and you would have a good sitcom but add Estelle Getty and you have a “GREAT” sitcom.  She shined in her role and truly made “The Golden Girls” just what it was -“GOLDEN”……She will truly be missed not just by her family and friends but by her fans too…….flagranny2

LOS ANGELES —  Estelle Getty, the diminutive actress who spent 40 years struggling for success before landing a role of a lifetime in 1985 as the sarcastic octogenarian Sophia on TV’s “The Golden Girls,” has died. She was 84.

Getty, who suffered from advanced dementia, died at about 5:30 a.m. Tuesday at her Hollywood Boulevard home, said her son, Carl Gettleman of Santa Monica.

“Estelle always wanted to be an actress, and she achieved that goal beyond her dreams,” former “Golden Girls” co-star Rue McClanahan told The Associated Press. “Don’t feel sad about her passing. She will always be with us in her crowning achievement, Sophia.”

Our mother-daughter relationship was one of the greatest comic duos ever, and I will miss her,” Arthur said in a statement.
